
Why Your Bathroom Heater Shouldn’t Blind You
When we design infrared lamps for the bathroom, we’re trying to solve a pretty annoying problem. You want that instant, cozy heat the second you step out of the shower, but you don’t want a light so bright it feels like you’re staring into the sun. This is especially important for kids, whose eyes are way more sensitive to harsh light than ours are. Most standard IR lamps just dump a ton of energy into the visible spectrum. The result? A blinding glare that makes you squint. We decided to change that. Keeping the heat, losing the glare We do this by tweaking the quartz glass and carefully controlling the filament temperature to filter out those harsh blue-light peaks. Basically, we push the energy toward the long-wave infrared range. The result is a soft glow. You feel the warmth on your skin immediately, but your eyes aren’t fighting a battle with the light. It’s not just about making it “nice” to look at—it’s about making sure the light levels stay safe and gentle for everyone in the house. The gear behind the glow To make this work in a steamy bathroom, we use high-purity quartz tubes. Why? Because standard glass clouds up or breaks down when it’s constantly hit with humidity. These tubes are built to heat up fast. We’ve calibrated the filament to hit a sweet spot. It gets hot enough to take the chill out of a damp room, but it stays below the threshold where the light becomes irritating. A few things to keep in mind Now, there’s a trade-off here. Because we prioritize safety and soft light, these aren’t the same high-voltage monsters you’d find in an industrial drying oven. They don’t have that same aggressive “punch,” but that’s a trade we’re happy to make for a home environment. One quick tip on installation: these lamps rely on radiant heat, not blowing hot air around. If you put them in a fixture with zero ventilation, the housing can get too hot. Just make sure there’s some room for air to move. It keeps the quartz from cracking and keeps everything running smoothly.
