
Getting the Heat Right in High-Speed PET Blowing
If you’re pushing a Husky HyPET or a Sidel SBO 10 to its absolute limit, you know the struggle. The biggest headache is almost always the heating profile. When the heat doesn’t actually soak into the thickest parts of the preform, things go south quickly. You end up with uneven walls or that annoying pearlescence in the finished bottle. It’s frustrating. That’s why we built our replacement lamps—to stop the guesswork and actually get the heat where it needs to be. The secret is in the penetration. We messed around with the quartz composition and the halogen gas fill to shift how the infrared emission works. For these high-speed lines, short-wave IR is the way to go. It digs deeper and faster into the PET plastic than the long-wave stuff. We also got really picky about the filament winding. By tightening those tolerances, we get a steady stream of heat across the whole tube. No more “cold spots.” And no more slowing down your machine just to compensate for a bad lamp. They just fit. These are drop-in replacements. We made them to match the OEM footprint exactly so they sit perfectly in your oven reflectors. It sounds like a small detail, but it’s huge. If the fit is too loose, your focal point is off. Too tight? The lamp might snap when it expands from the heat.
