It’s getting that heat to actually sink into the center of the preform wall without burning the outside to a crisp. That’s exactly why we built our replacement lamps the way we did. It’s all about the heat density. We spent a lot of time messing with the halogen gas pressure and the filament. Why? Because we wanted to shift the infrared light to a wavelength that PET polymers actually “like” to absorb. If you don’t do this, you get the “skin effect.” That’s when the outside of your preform is overheating, but the core is still cold. It’s a nightmare. By fixing the spectral output, you get a uniform melt. Fewer rejects. Less waste. It just works. No headaches during installation. These are simple drop-in replacements. A quick word of caution. Here’s the thing: more penetration power means more heat density. If you crank the wattage to shave time off your cycles, your cooling has to be perfect. Check your blow-pins and cooling fans. If they’re clogged with dust or grime, all that extra radiant energy can overheat your neck finish. Just keep the airflow clear, and you’re golden.
