
Getting Your SIPA SFR 16 Back Up to Speed
If you’ve been running an older SIPA SFR 16 for a while, you know exactly how it goes. The machine starts to feel sluggish. Your cycle speeds drop, and the preform heating just isn’t as consistent as it used to be. Most of the time, it’s not the machine failing—it’s just the lamps getting tired. The good news? You don’t need to rip out the whole oven. You can usually get your output back just by swapping those worn-out infrared lamps for some high-density replacements. The secret is in the heat. The SFR 16 uses short-wave infrared to punch through those PET walls quickly. We make sure our lamps match your machine’s power supply perfectly, but we tweak the wattage. By putting a higher-wattage tube in the same space, you get more heat flux. Basically, the preform hits its glass transition temperature faster. And when that happens, you can shave seconds off your cycle. Those seconds add up fast when you’re running a full shift. Built to actually last. We use heavy-wall quartz glass because, let’s be honest, high heat makes cheap tubes bow. We also use a halogen cycle. This keeps the tungsten filament from evaporating and sticking to the glass—which is what causes those annoying “dark spots” and uneven heating. They’re simple drop-in replacements. No need to rewire the oven or modify the housing. You just plug them in and get back to work. A quick heads-up, though. More heat isn’t always a magic fix. If you crank the wattage too high just to chase speed, you might overheat the preform neck or end up with “pearls” in the PET. You’ve got to keep an eye on your ventilation. If your cooling fans are clogged with dust or just can’t keep up, the ambient heat will build up and mess with your process window. Replacing these lamps is the fastest way to stop the guesswork. It stabilizes your heating profile and lets your machine run the way it was actually meant to.
