Think about how a normal heater works. It relies on convection, which is slow. IR is different. This solves a huge headache called “overshoot.” If you’ve ever dealt with PID loops, you know the drill: the heater stays on because the sensor hasn’t “felt” the heat yet. The “Catch” (and how to handle it)
Now, you can’t just swap a bulb and call it a day. To make this work, you need a fast-switching SSR (Solid State Relay). If you try to use an old-school mechanical contactor, the constant clicking—the “chattering”—will chew through the switch in a few weeks. It’s just not built for that kind of speed. There’s one more thing: these emitters pack a massive punch in a tiny space. Because the heat is so concentrated, your reflectors have to be spot on. If they’re dirty or pitted, you’re throwing away about 20% of your efficiency because the heat is just soaking into the oven walls. Keep them polished. It’s worth the effort.
